Perplexity’s planned $400 million AI search integration into Snapchat has been terminated in the first quarter, removing what could have been a major distribution and monetization channel for the private AI search company. The agreement, announced in November, would have embedded Perplexity’s conversational search directly in Snapchat’s Chat interface, funded through a mix of cash and equity over one year.

With the partnership ended “amicably,” testing that was underway with select Snapchat users will not proceed to broad rollout, eliminating a significant potential user acquisition funnel and a high-visibility consumer use case for Perplexity’s technology. The collapse of the deal also removes a large, structured near-term revenue commitment from a major platform partner, increasing Perplexity’s reliance on alternative routes to scale its user base, enterprise relationships, and monetization strategy.
