Pathwork has launched PreQual Manager, an AI-driven inbox solution developed with NGL Insurance Company and LifeCare Assurance to automate front-end underwriting inquiries in life and long-term care insurance. The platform ingests unstructured broker emails, extracts salient case data, compares it against carrier underwriting rules, and drafts impact analyses and responses for underwriters to review, preserving full human authority over final decisions.

For NGL, which receives nearly 1,000 pre-application inquiries monthly, early deployment has reduced time spent per inquiry by an estimated 20–25%, while embedding guideline-based rationale into responses to improve consistency and transparency for brokers. Pathwork positions PreQual Manager as a production-ready GenAI tool that allows carrier underwriting teams to reallocate capacity from informal prequalification to higher-value formal application review and risk assessment.

Pathwork’s CEO and co-founder, Ian Levinsky, framed the launch as part of a broader shift toward AI-defined service standards in insurance distribution, emphasizing the need for rapid, consistent, and scalable guidance without altering eligibility standards. NGL’s leadership underscored that the technology aligns with existing underwriting workflows and is intended to enhance broker trust through faster turnaround times, more uniform decisions, and clearer explanations.

Strategically, the product strengthens Pathwork’s value proposition as an AI-native automation platform for life, annuity, and health insurance carriers and distributors, expanding its footprint in underwriting operations. The NGL deployment serves as a reference implementation that can support future commercial adoption, positioning Pathwork to capture growing demand for AI-enabled efficiency in insurance distribution and pre-application triage.

By anchoring its solution in live production use rather than pilots, Pathwork signals readiness for scale with additional carriers seeking measurable productivity gains and service improvements. The company’s focus on augmenting rather than replacing underwriters may ease internal adoption and regulatory concerns, while consistent rule-based responses could reduce operational risk and variability in early-stage case evaluation.
