Oura has acquired Helsinki-based Doublepoint, a gesture-recognition startup whose AI and biometric technology enables wearables to be controlled through subtle, natural hand movements, in a deal whose financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition is designed to integrate gesture-based controls into Oura’s smart rings, advancing the company’s shift toward more ambient, AI-led user experiences.
By combining Doublepoint’s fine-grained movement detection with Oura’s continuous biometric sensing, the company plans to roll out new AI features that operate quietly in the background and rely on both voice and gesture interfaces. Oura will absorb Doublepoint’s AI team, including its four founders, who are expected to play a central role in designing next-generation interaction models across Oura’s devices and services.
The move follows a period of strong growth for Oura and the broader smart ring category, with the company now valued at roughly $11 billion and cumulative ring sales reaching 5.5 million, more than doubling from 2.5 million in mid-2024. Oura is forecasting revenue to surpass $1.5 billion in 2026, supported by a smart ring market that saw shipments rise nearly 51% in 2025, where Oura is reported to lead the segment.
CEO Tom Hale characterized the Doublepoint deal as a strategic acquisition that accelerates product innovation, deepens Oura’s AI capabilities, and reinforces its long-term commitment to Finland as a talent hub. This is Oura’s fourth acquisition, following prior purchases of Sparta Science, Veri, and Proxy, signaling an ongoing roll-up strategy to expand its technology stack and data capabilities.
For executives and investors, the Doublepoint acquisition underscores Oura’s intent to differentiate on intelligent interaction and multi-modal sensing rather than hardware alone, potentially supporting higher engagement, lower churn, and premium pricing. Successful integration of gesture and voice-driven AI features could strengthen Oura’s competitive lead in a rapidly scaling wearables niche, while creating optionality for broader ecosystem partnerships around health, authentication, and everyday computing interfaces.
