OpenAI is extending the reach of its Codex coding assistant through a deeper integration with Figma, positioning Codex more firmly in the product-design and front-end development workflows that drive SaaS and digital product spending. By connecting Codex to Figma via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, OpenAI enables engineers to move fluidly between design canvases and code, lowering friction in going from concept to implementation and broadening Codex’s use beyond traditional developer IDEs.

The tighter Figma partnership follows OpenAI’s strategy of embedding Codex wherever software gets designed and built, complementing its integration into ChatGPT and a recently launched MacOS Codex app that has already surpassed one million downloads in its first week. OpenAI reports more than one million weekly Codex users and has released two new Codex models to capture growing demand, underscoring the tool’s role as a competitive response to Anthropic’s Claude Code and positioning OpenAI to capture more enterprise developer and designer budgets over time.
