OpenAI is reportedly preparing to integrate its artificial intelligence (AI) video model Sora into ChatGPT, a move that could significantly expand access to AI-generated video and intensify competition with AI tools such as Gemini, developed by Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet (GOOGL).

The plan would reportedly allow users to generate short video clips directly from written prompts within the ChatGPT interface. Embedding the technology into the chatbot could expose video creation tools to millions of users who already rely on ChatGPT for writing, research, coding, and other tasks. Notably, the move could come ahead of OpenAI’s highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), with market projections targeting a massive $1 trillion valuation.
OpenAI to Expand Multimodal AI Capabilities Before Going Public
The integration of Sora into ChatGPT would represent another step in OpenAI’s push into multimodal artificial intelligence, which focuses on systems capable of producing and interpreting multiple forms of media, including text, images, audio, and video.
While generative AI tools for text and images have become widely adopted, video generation remains a more technically complex challenge, which OpenAI appears to be tackling at present. Sora could become integrated into OpenAI’s ChatGPT ahead of its upcoming IPO. The private company previously confirmed a $110 billion valuation in late February, fueling expectations that it could become the largest IPO company in US tech history.
Notably, OpenAI introduced Sora in 2025 as part of its effort to advance multimedia AI technology. The system quickly attracted attention for its ability to generate detailed scenes and cinematic camera movement from simple text prompts. The company later released Sora as a standalone platform for creating and sharing short AI-generated videos.
OpenAI’s Rivalry with Google’s Gemini
OpenAI’s planned Sora integration further highlights the escalating competition between the private AI company and Google as both companies push to expand their artificial intelligence ecosystems. Google has been rapidly upgrading its AI assistant Gemini and adding it across products such as search, productivity tools, and mobile devices.
By bringing the video-generation capabilities of Sora into ChatGPT, OpenAI could strengthen its position in the emerging race to build all-in-one AI platforms that generate text, images, audio, and video from a single prompt. Investors are watching this industry battle closely as these technology giants compete to define the next generation of digital content creation.
