OpenAI is broadening its real-time AI stack with new voice intelligence models in its Realtime API, signaling a push to make conversational AI a core enterprise interface rather than a niche feature. The flagship model, GPT-Realtime-2, uses what the company describes as GPT-5-class reasoning to handle more complex, multi-step requests, positioning OpenAI to power higher-value customer interactions, workflows, and automated agents across sectors.
Complementing this, OpenAI introduced GPT-Realtime-Translate for live, conversational translation in more than 70 input and 13 output languages, and GPT-Realtime-Whisper for streaming speech-to-text, both billed by the minute, while GPT-Realtime-2 remains token-based. Together, these services aim to capture enterprise spend in customer service, education, media, events, and creator platforms by enabling applications that can listen, reason, translate, transcribe, and act in real time, with embedded safeguards to halt conversations that breach harmful content rules, addressing regulatory and reputational risk concerns for corporate adopters.
