Nscale is acquiring American Intelligence & Power Corporation, including its Monarch Compute Campus in Mason County, West Virginia, in a deal that establishes a long-term U.S. power and land platform for AI data centers. The 2,250‑acre site is the first state-certified AI microgrid in the United States and provides a scalable onsite power runway planned to exceed 8 gigawatts, directly addressing power constraints that have become a critical bottleneck for large-scale AI infrastructure.

As part of the transaction, Nscale is creating a new division, Nscale Energy & Power, headquartered in Houston, to vertically integrate energy procurement and compute infrastructure and to support future global expansion. The initial 2‑gigawatt capacity is targeted to come online by the first half of 2028, with a ramp to roughly 8 gigawatts by 2031, positioning Nscale to meet rising U.S. demand for AI training, fine-tuning, and inference workloads. Veteran energy executive Daniel Shapiro will serve as Chief Power Officer and Bengt Jarlsjo as Deputy Chief Power Officer, and the entire AIPCorp and Fidelis New Energy teams will join Nscale, bringing nearly a decade of AI infrastructure development experience. CEO Josh Payne said the acquisition accelerates the company’s U.S. footprint and supports its strategy to build a full-stack, “neocloud” AI hyperscaler integrated from energy to compute, with Morgan Stanley advising Nscale on the deal.
