According to a recent LinkedIn post from X-Energy Reactor Company LLC, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has granted TRISO-X a Special Nuclear Material License under Part 70. The authorization reportedly covers commercial manufacture of HALEU nuclear fuel at the company’s first two fuel facilities, TX-1 and TX-2, under an initial 40-year license.

The post indicates that these facilities are the first new fuel sites licensed by the NRC in more than 50 years and positions TX-1 to become the first Category II nuclear fuel facility. This regulatory milestone may reduce a key bottleneck for deploying advanced reactors by moving the U.S. closer to a stable, commercial source of TRISO fuel.
For investors, the license could enhance X-Energy’s competitive position in next-generation nuclear by securing early fuel manufacturing capability in a constrained HALEU market. It may also support long-term revenue visibility, given the 40-year license horizon, and strengthen the company’s role in the broader decarbonization and energy security landscape.
