According to a recent LinkedIn post from EV Co, NIO is reportedly adopting a more aggressive pricing strategy in China’s premium EV segment with the pre-sale launch of its ES9 SUV. The post indicates that the ES9 is priced about 31% below the ET9 sedan, positioning the model as a flagship-technology vehicle at a lower entry point.

The company’s LinkedIn post highlights that the ES9, a full-size six-seat electric SUV, will start at 528,000 yuan ($77,230) with deliveries expected from June 1 following a late-May launch. Three variants are mentioned, priced at 528,000, 588,000, and 658,000 yuan including the battery.
According to the post, NIO’s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) model can reduce the upfront cost to around 420,000 yuan, potentially broadening the addressable customer base. This pricing approach, if successful, could support higher volume while preserving a premium brand image, which may be important for margin management and scale efficiencies.
The post suggests that the ES9 aims to replicate the earlier ES8 strategy while undercutting the ET9, which has served as NIO’s benchmark for technology and pricing since late 2024. For investors, this could signal a deliberate pivot toward volume-driven growth in the upper tier of China’s EV market, intensifying competitive pressure on rival premium EV offerings.
