Molten Salt Solutions Signs Key Fusion Supply Deals to Scale Enriched Lithium Production

Molten Salt Solutions has secured strategic supply agreements with fusion developers Type One Energy and Gauss Fusion, positioning the Santa Fe–based company as a foundational supplier of enriched lithium isotopes for next-generation fusion and advanced fission systems. The frameworks envision initial kilogram-scale deliveries for materials testing starting as early as 2027, ramping over time to hundreds of tons as the counterparties progress toward pilot plants and commercial power deployment.

At the core of the strategy, Molten Salt Solutions has developed a high-throughput solvent exchange process that consolidates thousands of traditional chemical exchange stages into an integrated system, addressing what CEO Dr. John Elling calls a critical bottleneck in lithium-6 supply for tritium production. By targeting the ability to produce thousands of tons of highly enriched lithium annually in the 2030s, the company aims to create the first commercial-scale supply chain for lithium isotopes, a capability industry leaders at Type One Energy and Gauss Fusion describe as a strategic imperative for scaling a closed deuterium-tritium fuel cycle. Backed by venture investors and leveraging deep nuclear materials expertise, Molten Salt Solutions’ technology development and these early offtake-style agreements materially enhance its long-term revenue visibility and strategic relevance as fusion and molten salt reactor markets move from R&D into industrialization.
