Mistral AI has reportedly arranged $830 million in debt financing to construct a new Nvidia-powered data center near Paris, positioning the French lab to expand its proprietary infrastructure rather than relying on external cloud providers. The facility in Bruyères-le-Châtel is slated to be completed and operational by the second quarter of 2026, marking a major capital commitment aimed at securing the compute capacity required to train and deploy large-scale AI models.
This project complements Mistral AI’s recently announced $1.4 billion investment in Sweden to develop additional AI infrastructure, as the company targets 200 megawatts of compute capacity deployed across Europe by 2027. CEO Arthur Mensch has framed this buildout as essential for European AI sovereignty and for serving rising demand from governments, enterprises, and research institutions seeking dedicated environments for custom AI systems, and the company has already raised more than €2.8 billion from global investors to support this strategy.
