MicrobiotiX has signed a memorandum of understanding with the West Africa Centre for Innovative Research and Care in Ghana, launching a strategic clinical collaboration to advance bacteriophage-based therapies against antimicrobial resistance across Africa. The move extends MicrobiotiX’s clinical footprint beyond its ongoing South Korean program into a high-need region, positioning the company to generate evidence in diverse patient populations and strengthen its global development strategy.

Under the agreement, WAFCIRC and four partner clinical sites in Ghana will run studies on AMR-associated infections, manage clinical operations, and oversee patient engagement and data, while MicrobiotiX supplies GMP-manufactured phage candidates, funding, and technical support. Management frames the partnership as both a product development and capacity-building initiative, aiming to create a scalable, locally led model for phage clinical trials in low- and middle-income countries that could accelerate adoption of phage therapies, complement antimicrobial stewardship, and ultimately expand the company’s addressable market as drug-resistant infections continue to rise.
