Liquid AI has entered into a strategic partnership with Shopify to implement its Liquid Foundation Models (LFMs) across Shopify’s platform, focusing on quality-sensitive workflows such as search. This collaboration marks a significant milestone following Shopify’s participation in Liquid AI’s $250 million Series A funding round in December 2024. The partnership aims to improve search functionalities with a sub-20ms text model, enhancing user experience through faster and more reliable recommendations. Liquid AI and Shopify have co-developed a generative recommender system that utilizes a novel HSTU architecture, which has demonstrated superior performance in controlled testing, leading to higher conversion rates.

Liquid AI’s CEO, Ramin Hasani, emphasized the importance of reliable and efficient models in decision-making across various sectors, highlighting the partnership’s potential to bring measurable value to millions of shoppers and merchants. The LFMs are designed for rapid, quality-preserving inference, outperforming popular open-source models while maintaining lower latency. Shopify’s CTO, Mikhail Parakhin, praised Liquid AI’s architecture for its efficiency and speed, essential for powering interactive commerce at scale. The collaboration includes a multi-purpose license for LFMs, ongoing research and development, and a shared roadmap for future innovations. While the initial deployment focuses on search, the companies are exploring additional applications such as customer profiling and product classification. Financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed.
