The company announced a leadership transition from a dual CEO structure to a single Chief Executive Officer model. Co-founder and current Co-CEO Jan Goetz will become sole CEO effective January 1, while Soren Hein has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO. Former Co-CEO Mikko Välimäki will step down from his commercial role and remain as an advisor until March 31, 2026 to support the transition. The board highlighted that the change reflects the organization’s maturity and is intended to support its next phase of global growth.

For investors, the move to a single-CEO structure suggests IQM is entering a more consolidated governance phase, which can streamline decision-making as the company scales. The continued involvement of Välimäki as an advisor reduces execution risk around customer and partner relationships during the transition period. The appointment of a dedicated COO and Deputy CEO may indicate increased operational complexity as IQM pursues industrial and commercial deployment of its quantum computing systems.

Strategically, this structure is designed to support IQM’s focus on scaling quantum computers for industrial and commercial use and on building ecosystems where institutions own their own quantum expertise and infrastructure. If executed well, clearer leadership accountability and strengthened operational management could enhance IQM’s ability to convert R&D capabilities into commercial contracts, potentially improving revenue visibility over the medium term. In the wider quantum computing sector, where competition and capital intensity are high, a mature leadership framework and stable succession planning may bolster IQM’s positioning with customers, partners, and prospective investors.
