Insta360 has introduced a new trade-in program that turns unused cameras into store credit for its latest 360-degree and AI-powered imaging devices, positioning the company to drive incremental hardware sales and deepen ecosystem lock-in. The initiative allows creators to submit legacy or idle cameras through Insta360’s support portal, ship them using prepaid labels, and receive store credit once devices pass inspection.
Unlike many single-brand upgrade schemes, Insta360’s program accepts a broad range of third-party cameras as well as older Insta360 models, lowering friction for creators who work across mixed setups and encouraging switch-ins from competing platforms. Current incentives include up to US$100 toward the Insta360 X5 and up to US$80 toward the X4 Air, GO Ultra, or Ace Pro 2, with equivalent values available in regional stores.
By targeting a common pain point—time-consuming resale on secondary markets—the program is designed to accelerate upgrade cycles at a time when expectations for high-resolution, stabilized, and AI-enhanced content are rising across social and professional platforms. The company is effectively monetizing dormant hardware sitting in users’ drawers, which could support higher conversion to premium models and increase average revenue per user.
The trade-in offer is currently live in the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan region, and Macau region, giving Insta360 a lever to strengthen share in several key creator and prosumer markets. Coupons are restricted to use in the Insta360 Store, cannot be redeemed for cash, combined with other promotions, or split across multiple purchases, ensuring that incentives directly translate into new product sales.
Strategically, this move complements Insta360’s broader portfolio of 360 cameras, compact action devices, and AI-driven software by reducing financial barriers for creators seeking to keep pace with rapidly evolving imaging standards. If adopted at scale, the program could improve customer retention, attract users from rival brands, and provide a repeatable mechanism to support future hardware launches, while reinforcing Insta360’s positioning as a leader in the creator tools segment.
