Illuminant Surgical has secured $8.4 million in seed financing to accelerate commercialization of its Skylight platform, a projection-based guidance system that displays internal anatomy directly onto a patient’s body. The round was led by Wing 2 Wing Ventures with participation from the National Science Foundation, National Cancer Institute, National Institute on Aging, Elderberry Ventures, Soma Capital, DRF, and other investors, positioning the company to move from development into broader clinical deployment.

Skylight uses the company’s SkinMatch tracking technology and LightScreen depth-adaptive projection to deliver millimeter-level accuracy for procedures such as spine surgery and cancer biopsies, aiming to reduce high revision, miss, and failure rates that collectively cost the U.S. healthcare system over $20 billion annually. Co-founders and co-CEOs Eldrick Millares and Dr. James Hu, backed by a multidisciplinary medtech and clinical team, are targeting rapid integration into existing operating-room workflows, with a business model designed to lower adoption friction and support scalable, recurring revenue as the platform expands across image-guided interventions.
