Highland Electric Fleets is central to New Orleans Charter Science & Mathematics High School’s transition to an all‑electric student transportation fleet, supplying its Electrification‑as‑a‑Service model to support nine new Type C electric school buses and dedicated chargers. The buses, operated by A&S Transportation, mark a complete shift away from diesel and are backed by overnight charging infrastructure designed for reliable daily routing and operational flexibility as service scales.

The project, funded in part through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program, showcases Highland’s ability to structure and deliver turnkey electrification for public schools without burdening them with upfront capital or technology risk. By replacing diesel buses, Highland is enabling Sci High to cut exposure to fuel price volatility, reduce maintenance costs associated with vehicles that have fewer moving parts, and create more predictable long‑term operating expenses for the school’s transportation program.

Highland’s Chief Commercial Officer, Brian Buccella, emphasized the health and environmental benefits, noting that diesel exhaust is a known asthma trigger and that in‑bus pollution levels in diesel vehicles can far exceed outside air, whereas electric buses eliminate tailpipe emissions and provide a quieter ride. For Highland, this deployment strengthens its presence in the Gulf Coast region, adds another fully electric fleet to its operating base, and reinforces its positioning as a leading partner to school districts and charter operators seeking to decarbonize transportation, offering a replicable model that could drive further contract wins as federal and state incentive programs continue to support EV adoption.
