HERVolution Therapeutics has appointed Dr. László B. Tankó to its Scientific Advisory Board, strengthening clinical and regulatory guidance as the company advances its lead HERV-targeting asset, IPT-001, toward first-in-human studies planned for 2026. The move is designed to de-risk and accelerate development of HERVolution’s cardiometabolic pipeline, which targets HERV-K–driven cellular senescence and insulin resistance underlying metabolic aging and progression to type 2 diabetes.
IPT-001 is being developed as a potentially first-in-class senolytic immunotherapy and insulin sensitizer that directly addresses biological drivers of metabolic disease rather than downstream symptoms, with parallel applications in oncology and longevity. Tankó’s track record of leading global cardiometabolic and musculoskeletal clinical programs at Ferring, Novartis, NIBR, Bayer, and most recently as CMO of SixPeaks Bio—where he helped steer an IND-ready metabolic biologic to a $300 million acquisition by AstraZeneca—signals a focus on building a credible path from early concept to regulatory submission and potential exit or partnership.
HERVolution CEO J. Robert Coleman highlighted Tankó’s experience with FDA and EMA interactions as a critical asset for designing first-in-human studies and navigating regulatory strategy in both the U.S. and European markets. For HERVolution, this appointment supports upcoming decisions on trial design, patient selection, and endpoints in metabolic disease, which will be pivotal for demonstrating that HERV-K–directed senolysis can translate into clinically meaningful improvements in glycemic control and weight-related parameters.
Tankó, an author of more than 110 peer-reviewed publications and holder of multiple U.S. patents, brings recognized expertise in obesity, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases, aligning closely with HERVolution’s focus on cardiometabolic and aging-related indications. His involvement is likely to influence partnering discussions, capital-raising efforts, and long-term portfolio strategy as HERVolution positions IPT-001 and its broader HERV-targeting platform at the intersection of immunotherapy, metabolic disease, and longevity therapeutics.
