Hermeus has received a Special Airworthiness Certificate – Experimental Category from the Federal Aviation Administration for its unmanned Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 aircraft, clearing a key regulatory hurdle for the company’s high-speed flight roadmap. The approval follows a year-long technical engagement with the FAA and authorizes an expanded flight-test campaign aimed at progressively pushing the platform toward sustained supersonic performance.
Quarterhorse Mk 2.1 is currently the most advanced asset in Hermeus’s incremental development line, in which each aircraft is flown to gather performance and systems data that shape the design and risk posture of the subsequent vehicle. Ongoing testing at Spaceport America in New Mexico, within White Sands Missile Range airspace, will move to higher altitudes and speeds as the program matures, with Hermeus positioning its rapid hardware-iteration approach as a way to deliver operationally relevant hypersonic-enabling capabilities to defense customers and allies.
