Hermeus has named President Zach Shore as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 1, 2026, positioning him to lead the venture-backed defense aviation company through its next phase of expansion. Founder and current CEO AJ Piplica will shift to Executive Chairman, retaining day-to-day involvement while concentrating on long-term capital strategy, board leadership, and deepening investor and customer relationships.

The leadership transition follows Hermeus’s $350 million Series C round, bringing total private capital raised to more than $500 million and supporting major defense contract wins and ongoing flight campaigns. Shore, a four-year veteran of Hermeus, has been central to securing government contracts, strengthening customer advocacy, and professionalizing operations, and he will now be accountable for executing multiple concurrent development lines, including the imminent supersonic flight campaign of the Quarterhorse aircraft. Piplica’s move to Executive Chairman is designed to keep strategic oversight and capital formation tightly aligned with execution as Hermeus scales high-speed aircraft programs for the U.S. defense market.
