Health Gorilla Highlights Opportunity in Behavioral Health Data Exchange

According to a recent LinkedIn post from Health Gorilla, the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has highlighted a gap between behavioral health providers’ adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) and their use for data exchange. The post notes that while most substance use and mental health treatment facilities use EHRs for documentation, far fewer leverage them for information sharing, care coordination, or patient engagement.

The post suggests that improving interoperable data exchange is increasingly important for continuity of care, clinical outcomes, and meeting rising demand for behavioral health services.
