Harmattan AI Hits $1.4 Billion Valuation on Dassault-Led Round as It Shifts Into Scale-Up Mode

Harmattan AI has rapidly emerged as a central player in European defense technology, reaching a $1.4 billion valuation after securing a $200 million Series B round led by Dassault Aviation. Founded in 2024, the company develops autonomy and mission-system software for defense aircraft and will now work closely with Dassault to embed sovereign, scalable AI into future Rafale fighter jets and drones. This move marks a strategic evolution: Harmattan AI, which once positioned itself as a challenger to traditional defense primes, is now partnering with them and referring to itself more broadly as a defense technology company. The funding round, which lifts total capital raised to $242 million, follows strong endorsements from the French and U.K. defense ministries and a record multi-million-dollar NATO government contract for AI-enabled small drones just one year after the company’s launch.

The new capital will support an aggressive scale-up plan, including expanded manufacturing of platforms for drone interception, electronic warfare, and ISR, and an extension of its product portfolio into additional domains. Harmattan AI is also deepening its international footprint: it has partnered with Ukrainian drone maker Skyeton, is growing its U.S. team, and will present its capabilities at the World Defense Show in Riyadh, reflecting its stated mission to equip the armed forces of liberal democracies and their allies beyond Europe. The company’s rise is unfolding against a backdrop of surging demand for advanced drone and AI systems highlighted by the war in Ukraine, creating favorable market conditions for dual-use and defense-focused startups. CEO and co-founder Mouad M’Ghari describes the business as entering a new phase of industrial scale-up, while CTO and co-founder Martin de Gourcuff frames its mission in geopolitical terms, arguing that Harmattan AI aims to reinforce democratic power and legal order in an increasingly unstable international environment.
