Harbinger is accelerating its commercial EV strategy with the launch of the HC Series Cab, a smaller medium-duty work truck offered as either a fully electric model or a range-extended hybrid capable of up to 500 miles of range. Designed for fleet operations, the platform emphasizes low step-in height, tight turning radius, and flexible chassis upfitting for use cases such as cargo boxes and flatbeds, positioning Harbinger as a challenger to legacy diesel incumbents.
Backed by rapid capital formation and diversification, including a $100 million Series B in January 2025 and a $160 million Series C in November, Harbinger has already secured marquee customers such as FedEx and THOR Industries for its larger truck chassis line. The company has also moved into adjacent revenue streams by selling energy storage systems, landing Airstream as an initial buyer, and acquiring autonomous driving software firm Phantom AI to deepen its technology stack and potentially enhance future vehicle capabilities.
CEO John Harris has framed this multi-pronged expansion as a deliberate effort to build a resilient, vertically integrated business that can better withstand volatility in the U.S. market. Harbinger now treats its internal battery, motor, suspension, and axle operations as supplier-style verticals, which can serve both internal production and external customers, creating additional margin and revenue opportunities beyond vehicle sales.
While the broader U.S. passenger EV market faces demand headwinds, Harbinger is targeting commercial trucking on the thesis that lower total cost of ownership and reduced maintenance will sustain adoption of EVs and hybrids in this segment. Harris has not disclosed 2025 revenue, but has indicated that Harbinger’s 2025 sales of its larger truck chassis were a multiple of the entire domestic electric truck market in 2024, implying rapid share capture. If execution continues, the combination of new vehicle platforms, diversified product lines, and vertical integration positions Harbinger as a potentially durable player in medium-duty commercial electrification.
