Grow Therapy has launched an AI-powered coaching tool embedded in its app to support clients between therapy sessions while keeping licensed clinicians at the center of care. The AI coach, already handling more than 800,000 client messages since testing began in December 2025, is positioned as a supplemental, opt-in feature that extends engagement beyond the typical weekly one-hour session and is now available nationwide to eligible adult users.

Built on evidence-based frameworks such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and Behavioral Activation, the chat-based coach helps users practice skills, process emotions, organize thoughts, and prepare for upcoming sessions, with early usage concentrated on relationship issues and in-the-moment support. Clinician oversight is central: Grow has implemented multiple independent safety layers that can pause conversations, surface crisis resources, alert providers to potential safety concerns, and route flagged interactions to a licensed clinical quality team, which has correctly identified 99% of potential safety issues in reviews to date.

For providers, the product closes a visibility gap created when patients use generic chatbots outside the care platform, giving clinicians clearer insight into what clients are working through between visits and enabling earlier intervention when appropriate. Roughly half of active providers already have at least one client using the coach, and most report they would recommend it, particularly for patients struggling with procrastination, task initiation, or perfectionism.

To reinforce governance and responsible deployment, Grow has formed an external AI Advisory Panel composed of experts in clinical psychology, AI research, ethics, epidemiology, and behavioral health market strategy. This group, which includes leaders with experience in digital mental health, academic ethics, and AI evaluation, advises on safety standards, product assessment, and continuous improvement as the AI coach scales across Grow’s 26,000-provider network.

Strategically, the AI coach strengthens Grow Therapy’s value proposition as a technology-enabled mental health platform that serves 220 million insurance-covered Americans and has raised $328 million from major investors. The initiative aims to differentiate Grow in a crowded digital behavioral health market by offering a tightly integrated, clinician-led AI solution that could improve outcomes, provider efficiency, and client retention, while mitigating regulatory and reputational risk associated with unsupervised AI in mental health.
