Gradient has completed a $1.25 million, building-wide deployment of its All-Weather 120V window heat pumps at Carroll Tower, a 194-unit Providence Housing Authority property, marking the first comprehensive heating and cooling upgrade in the building’s five-decade history. The company installed 277 units that plug into standard outlets and avoid major electrical upgrades, enabling a full-building conversion from electric baseboard heat in just 12 days and positioning Gradient’s technology as a scalable solution for aging multifamily stock.
Preliminary projections indicate the system could save roughly 450,000 kilowatt-hours and about $94,500 in energy costs annually while cutting emissions by an estimated 219 tons of CO2 equivalent, supporting Rhode Island’s Clean Heat Rhode Island decarbonization agenda. Executives at Gradient highlight Carroll Tower as proof that fast, minimally disruptive retrofits can work at portfolio scale, and data collected over the next two years will inform future program design and additional multifamily electrification opportunities, potentially expanding Gradient’s addressable market among housing authorities and institutional owners.
