According to the post, participants will receive S$50 in GMI Cloud credits to prepare their technology stack, along with access to on-site support from GMI Cloud and Z.ai engineers. The competition will also feature more than S$20,000 in token prizes and scale-up credits, and will focus on building with the newest GLM 5.1 model.
For investors, the initiative suggests an effort by GMI Cloud to deepen engagement with AI developers and early-stage founders in the Singapore tech ecosystem. This type of event may help drive trial usage of the company’s cloud infrastructure, potentially supporting future customer acquisition, ecosystem development, and brand positioning in the regional AI and cloud markets.
The emphasis on free compute credits and technical support also implies a strategy of lowering adoption barriers for high-intent users, which could translate into higher conversion and retention if participants scale their projects beyond the hackathon. While the immediate revenue impact is uncertain, such community-building activities often function as a pipeline for future enterprise and startup workloads on the platform.
