GetReal Security Deepens Go-to-Market Bench with New CMO After $17.5M Series A

GetReal Security has appointed veteran cybersecurity marketer Varun Kohli as Chief Marketing Officer, strengthening its leadership bench as it scales its real-time deepfake and AI-driven identity protection platform for enterprises. Kohli will oversee global marketing, spanning brand, product marketing, demand generation, and growth operations, with a mandate to accelerate market penetration as digital identity threats become a board-level concern.

The hire follows GetReal Security’s recent addition of Chief Revenue Officer Mark Priebe and its $17.5 million Series A round led by Forgepoint Capital, signaling an aggressive push to convert rising demand for deepfake and synthetic identity defenses into revenue growth. CEO Matt Moynahan said Kohli’s experience translating complex security problems into clear narratives will be central to positioning the company as AI-driven impersonation and fraud accelerate, while Kohli framed the role as a chance to align a mission-critical cyber challenge with a scalable business model in an emerging category.

Kohli brings a track record of building categories and driving exits at firms such as Symantec, Feedzai, Skycure, ArcSight, IronPort Systems, and CipherTrust, most recently serving as CMO at Cequence Security, where he helped define the Unified API Protection segment and elevate the company to a leadership position in API security. His arrival is intended to help GetReal shape the nascent market for digital integrity and trust, as enterprises seek tools to mitigate growing financial, compliance, and reputational risks tied to deceptive AI content.

The company positions its platform as an enterprise-grade capability for detecting and responding to deepfakes, impersonation, and synthetic identities by combining advanced AI detection, forensics, and threat intelligence. Co-founded by deepfake expert Dr. Hany Farid and backed by a syndicate including Forgepoint Capital, Ballistic Ventures, Evolution Equity, Cisco, IQT, and Capital One, GetReal is betting that sustained investment in go-to-market leadership will allow it to capture share as losses from deepfake fraud, estimated in the billions, push organizations to formalize digital identity protection strategies.
