Function Health has launched a year-long collaboration with Erewhon to sell a co-branded, glass-bottled smoothie across all Erewhon stores through February 2027, positioning the health-tech platform directly in front of high-value wellness consumers. Each bottle carries a QR tag offering $25 off a Function membership, converting retail foot traffic into digital subscribers for its $365-per-year diagnostics service that delivers 160-plus lab tests and longitudinal health insights.

The smoothie, developed with co-founder and Chief Medical Officer Mark Hyman, M.D., is formulated around measurable gaps observed in Function’s member data, particularly metabolic and cardiovascular risk, where more than 65 percent of members show suboptimal fasting insulin and 54 percent present elevated ApoB. The 20-ingredient formulation is intended to serve as a complete meal supporting microbiome health, inflammation balance, blood sugar stability, and metabolic and cellular function, reinforcing Function’s positioning as a data-driven, personalized health platform rather than a generic nutrition brand.

Strategically, the partnership extends Function’s brand from a clinical-style digital service into a physical consumer product channel, giving it ongoing visibility in a premium grocery environment and creating a recurring acquisition funnel tied to everyday behavior. CEO and co-founder Jonathan Swerdlin frames the initiative as a challenge to conventional, one-size-fits-all health marketing, using the smoothie and its “World’s Healthiest Smoothie?” branding to underscore that optimal nutrition depends on individual biology and continuous data rather than static labels.

Function’s broader platform combines advanced lab testing with imaging capabilities acquired via its purchase of Ezra, giving members optional access to AI-enhanced MRI and CT scans designed to detect cancers, aneurysms, cardiovascular disease, and other serious conditions in as little as 22 minutes. By linking this infrastructure to a widely distributed consumer product, Function is effectively integrating top-of-funnel lifestyle branding with a deep back end of diagnostics, medical AI, and longitudinal analytics, which could improve customer lifetime value and differentiation in an increasingly crowded preventive health market.
