Forerunner has introduced AI Assistant, a mobile, AI-driven inspection tool designed to help state and local government field teams capture and process asset and infrastructure data more quickly, accurately, and with full audit trails. Integrated directly into Forerunner’s geospatial platform and mobile app, the assistant uses photo capture, real-time camera analysis, and voice interaction to identify on-site conditions, populate inspection forms automatically, and sync geocoded, audit-ready records to inspectors’ accounts for rapid follow-up.
The company positions AI Assistant as a force multiplier for public-sector operations such as stormwater inspection, asset management, code enforcement, floodplain management, and disaster recovery, grounding outputs in each jurisdiction’s GIS layers, historical records, local codes, and standard procedures to align with how each agency operates. To govern this expansion of AI in critical workflows, Forerunner concurrently released a formal AI policy emphasizing human oversight, transparent and traceable logic, centralized and defensible data, SOC 2 Type II–backed security with U.S.-based infrastructure, configurable controls over AI usage, and ADA-compliant, privacy-preserving design.
CEO and Co-Founder JT White framed the launch as a response to governments’ reliance on manual, outdated systems, arguing that public servants need trustworthy, context-aware tools rather than generic AI that “guesses.” He underscored that inspectors retain control over reviewing and finalizing outputs while AI handles administrative heavy lifting, a stance aimed at addressing public-sector concerns around risk, accountability, and workforce displacement. By co-developing its AI policy with partner communities, Forerunner seeks to differentiate on responsible AI implementation at a time when agencies are under pressure to modernize but must comply with strict regulatory and transparency requirements.
Forerunner currently works with more than 190 city, county, and state agencies across 26 U.S. states, including large markets such as California, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and New Jersey, giving the company a broad installed base into which AI Assistant can be rolled out immediately. The product is now available to state and local governments nationwide, potentially increasing platform stickiness, expanding use cases beyond floodplain and stormwater management, and positioning Forerunner as a leading provider of operational AI for the public sector. The company also participates in policy and advisory groups such as the Maine AI Task Force and the GovAI Coalition, which may further influence standards for responsible AI usage in government and support long-term demand for its solutions.
