Fermi America has reached a major execution milestone for Project Matador with the delivery of six Siemens Energy SGT-800 natural gas turbines and generators to Texas, advancing the power delivery schedule for its private AI-focused energy campus. The units, which will ultimately supply roughly one third of the project’s first gigawatt of capacity, arrived at the Port of Houston on seven vessels from four countries and required more than 36 oversized or heavy lifts using cranes exceeding 160 tons.

The equipment will be trucked to the Amarillo site on over 400 specialized container chassis semi-truck loads, underscoring both the scale and logistical complexity of the build-out. Fermi America views these high-efficiency turbines as a core element of its 11 GW behind-the-meter campus, designed to provide always-on, diversified power for hyperscale artificial intelligence workloads through a mix of natural gas, new nuclear, solar, battery storage, and grid interconnection.

Management emphasizes that Project Matador remains on an accelerated schedule, positioning the company to address a structural U.S. power shortfall as AI and advanced computing drive steep demand for reliable electricity. Co-founder and CEO Toby Neugebauer framed the rapid progress as critical to energy security and independence, noting that the private-generation model is intended to meet hyperscaler needs without shifting costs to Texas ratepayers.

From a strategic standpoint, the arrival of the SGT-800 units reduces execution risk on the natural gas segment of the campus, which is expected to be one of the nation’s largest combined-cycle gas projects once fully developed. The turbines’ efficiency and operational flexibility are expected to help lower emissions intensity relative to legacy gas assets, while giving Fermi America dispatchable capacity to balance intermittent renewables and storage.
