Expo has raised $45 million in Series B funding led by growth equity firm Georgian, capital that will be used to deepen its role as core infrastructure for React Native and cross-platform mobile development and to accelerate its roadmap for enterprise-grade tooling. The company simultaneously launched Expo Agent, an AI-enabled, forward-deployed mobile expert designed to let teams move from concept to production-ready iOS, Android, and web apps in minutes, positioning Expo as a key beneficiary of the surge in AI-assisted development.
Founded in 2015 by early Facebook engineers and Quora co-founder Charlie Cheever, Expo now supports apps serving hundreds of millions of end users, with close to 4 million weekly downloads and a community exceeding 3 million developers, including enterprise deployments such as the MTA’s Subway & Bus app that rely on Expo’s over-the-air updates for rapid fixes at scale. The new capital will fund faster builds, deeper native integrations, improved developer experience, and the expansion of agentic tooling as Expo Agent moves through public beta, while the appointment of Seth Webster as Chief Developer Evangelist is aimed at driving broader adoption across startups and large enterprises, strengthening ecosystem partnerships, and reinforcing Expo’s ambition to become the default path from idea to production for mobile teams operating in an AI-native environment.
