The company highlighted the growing role of grid-scale battery energy storage in meeting rising U.S. power demand and improving grid reliability, particularly as data center loads increase. Eolian’s CEO, Aaron Zubaty, discussed with Canary Media the company’s work with Open Road Renewables on the Prospect Power project in northern Virginia, a battery storage facility originally sited in 2017 to support expanding IT and data center demand in the region’s “datacenter alley.” The project, located within the PJM Interconnection market, is expected to be the largest operating battery storage asset in PJM when it is completed in mid-2026, and Eolian anticipates further rapid build-out of storage capacity in the market.

For investors, this update underscores Eolian’s strategic positioning in a high-growth segment of the power sector: grid-scale battery storage serving data center-driven load growth. By targeting PJM, the largest U.S. competitive wholesale power market, Eolian is aligning its development pipeline with areas of acute capacity needs and increasing reliance on flexible resources as thermal plants undergo maintenance or face retirement. If executed as planned, the Prospect Power project could contribute meaningfully to the company’s asset base, potential revenue from capacity, ancillary services, and energy arbitrage, and may enhance its reputation as a partner of choice for large-load customers and developers. The stated expectation of a “huge amount of build” in PJM suggests a favorable demand environment for storage assets, though returns will depend on market rules, interconnection timing, and regulatory treatment of storage in capacity and energy markets. Overall, the announcement points to incremental growth opportunities and a strengthening industry position for Eolian within the accelerating energy storage and data center infrastructure ecosystem.
