EnergyX Eyes Multi-Billion-Dollar Lithium Expansion in Chile

According to a recent LinkedIn post from EnergyX, CEO Teague Egan met with Chilean President José Antonio Kast and U.S. Ambassador Brandon Judd at the Shield of the Americas Summit in Miami to discuss the future of lithium in Chile. The post highlights EnergyX’s proposed Black Giant project and a broader strategic vision for Chile as a key node in the global energy transition.

The company’s LinkedIn post outlines a potential $5B investment program centered on a $1.1B Black Giant project using Direct Lithium Extraction technology, targeting around 50,000 tons of lithium annually. It also references a long-term plan to develop a major lithium refining hub near Mejillones, informally dubbed “Litio Mecca,” that could process lithium feedstock from across the lithium triangle.

According to the post, EnergyX reports growing operational presence in Chile, including more than 100,000 acres of private concessions and pilot plants that it says demonstrate up to 96% lithium recovery, materially above traditional evaporation methods. The post also notes that the U.S. EXIM Bank is considering $690M in financing for Project Black Giant, alongside increased diplomatic engagement between Chile and the U.S.

For investors, the content suggests EnergyX is positioning itself as a significant player in Chile’s next-generation lithium value chain, contingent on regulatory, financing, and project-execution milestones. If realized, the scale of the proposed investments and processing capacity could enhance the company’s long-term revenue potential and strengthen its competitive stance in DLE and refining, while also increasing exposure to permitting, political, and commodity-price risks in the region.
