ElevenLabs is positioning itself at the center of the shift toward voice as the primary interface for artificial intelligence, underpinned by a new $500 million capital raise that values the company at $11 billion. Co-founder and CEO Mati Staniszewski told an audience at Web Summit in Doha that the company’s technology has progressed from merely replicating human speech and emotional nuance to working in tandem with large language models’ reasoning capabilities, enabling more natural, conversational interaction with machines. Staniszewski framed this as a fundamental change in human–computer interaction, arguing that as AI embeds into daily life through wearables, vehicles, and other hardware, users will rely less on screens and keyboards and more on continuous, spoken interaction. This strategic direction places ElevenLabs directly in a competitive race with major AI players that are also prioritizing voice, but the company’s funding and vision signal investor conviction that it can be a category leader in voice-driven AI infrastructure.
A core element of ElevenLabs’ roadmap is the development of agentic, context-aware voice systems that maintain persistent memory and reduce the need for explicit user prompts, making interactions more efficient and closer to human dialogue. To support this, the company is moving from a purely cloud-based model toward a hybrid architecture combining cloud and on-device processing, a shift designed to enable low-latency, privacy-sensitive deployments in hardware such as headphones and other wearables where voice may function as an always-available assistant. Commercially, ElevenLabs is already scaling distribution through partnerships, including an agreement with Meta to integrate its voice technology into platforms like Instagram and Horizon Worlds, and Staniszewski signaled openness to extending this to devices such as Ray-Ban smart glasses. While this strategy could expand ElevenLabs’ addressable market and deepen its integration into consumer and enterprise ecosystems, it also exposes the company to heightened regulatory and reputational scrutiny around privacy, surveillance risk, and long-term data retention as voice interfaces become more persistent and embedded in everyday environments.
