EDGX Expands In-Orbit AI Role and Showcases Defence-Focused Space Computing at BEDEX

EDGX is a European space-technology company specializing in in-orbit data processing, and this week’s news underscored its push into both government-backed small satellite programs and defence-oriented space computing. The company highlighted its role in the European RF Spectrum Monitoring Service SmallSat mission, supplying its STERNA platform to partner Starion for on-board AI-driven RF spectrum analysis.

By moving RF analysis into orbit, STERNA aims to cut the volume of raw data sent to ground stations and improve responsiveness for spectrum monitoring and related services. The project is part of a wider European consortium including BELSPO and the European Space Agency, bolstering EDGX’s standing among institutional partners and positioning it for future multi-agency programs.

In parallel, EDGX showcased its orbital and space-computing capabilities at the Brussels European Defence Exhibition & Conference (BEDEX), emphasizing space infrastructure as critical defence infrastructure. At booth 11517, company representatives engaged defence stakeholders on in-orbit computing, space-based data centers, ISR and SIGINT applications, and SATCOM architectures.

Across these demonstrations, EDGX stressed how onboard computing can shorten the cycle from detection to analysis and action, enabling faster decision-making and greater autonomy for sovereign satellite constellations. The company framed its solutions as supporting more resilient, distributed satellite architectures aligned with NATO and EU defence priorities.

Collectively, these developments illustrate EDGX’s strategy to occupy higher-value, mission-critical segments of the space and defence technology stack. While financial terms and timelines remain undisclosed, the combination of institutional partnerships and targeted defence outreach could strengthen its competitive position and open pathways to longer-term contracts and recurring revenue.

Overall, the week reinforced EDGX’s role as a key player in in-orbit AI and defence-focused space computing, with increased visibility among European agencies and defence integrators that may underpin its future growth prospects.
