Dispatch Energy LLC has brought its new Bridgeport fuel cell facility at Bunnell Block online, marking a significant expansion of its distributed clean energy portfolio and strengthening its role in Connecticut’s grid reliability strategy. The project, developed with United Illuminating Company on a remediated brownfield in a dense urban area, is designed to deliver non-intermittent, low-carbon baseload power in a city with high demand and limited space for traditional renewable infrastructure. Once an abandoned industrial property, Bunnell Block has been converted into a fully operational industrial park anchored by Dispatch Energy’s fuel cell site, which is expected to cut historical site emissions by roughly 50% and generate enough electricity to power about 3,393 homes, serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Built under the Connecticut Shared Clean Energy Facility (SCEF) program, the project aligns Dispatch Energy with state policy priorities around grid hardening, economic development, and local clean energy deployment.

For Dispatch Energy, the Bridgeport energization underscores its strategic push into distributed baseload solutions at a time when grids are under mounting strain from data centers, AI workloads, and electrification. The fuel cells were manufactured locally, reinforcing the company’s positioning within a domestic clean-energy supply chain and supporting regional manufacturing jobs while adding dependable generation capacity in an underserved area. United Illuminating’s CEO framed the project as both an economic and long-term savings opportunity for the community as well as a milestone for Dispatch Energy, while Dispatch Energy CEO Rich Dovere highlighted the site as a proof point for fuel cells’ role in delivering low-cost, clean power to high-density load centers. Supported by a team with experience overseeing more than $1.5 billion in operating generation assets and $2.5 billion in U.S. energy and transportation investments, Dispatch Energy is using this project to advance its mission of scaling commercial energy transition solutions and expanding its pipeline of distributed infrastructure assets.
