Discord is deepening its reliance on subscription revenue by launching Nitro Rewards, a new benefit bundle aimed at increasing the appeal and stickiness of its paid Nitro plans. The program, available at no extra cost to both Nitro Basic at $2.99 per month and the full Nitro tier at $9.99 per month, adds third-party gaming and lifestyle perks on top of existing features like enhanced profiles, HD streaming, and larger file uploads of up to 500 MB.
At launch, Nitro Rewards includes access to the base tier of Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers a curated catalog of more than 50 PC and console titles plus limited cloud gaming hours, as well as rotating discounts of 15% to 30% on gaming hardware from select brands. Discord’s leadership describes Nitro as the company’s largest and steadily growing revenue stream and frames Nitro Rewards as both a retention lever and a way to increase perceived value for paying users, while keeping the core service free for its more than 90 million daily active users. The company is also preparing age-verification measures to address growing online safety and regulatory pressures, underscoring that its monetization push via Nitro must coexist with heightened compliance and trust-and-safety expectations.
