Delos Insurance Solutions has expanded eligibility for its property insurance products to more than 1 million additional homes in wildfire-exposed areas of California over the past year, a move that materially increases its market reach amid an ongoing statewide insurance capacity crunch. The San Francisco–based managing general agent (MGA) now estimates it can underwrite coverage on about 12 million homes across the state, including many regions traditional carriers classify as too high risk, supported by A-rated capacity providers that have raised underwriting limits in response to Delos’ loss performance and risk analytics.
The expansion is underpinned by enhancements to Delos’ proprietary wildfire risk model, which integrates refined high‑resolution wind data and datasets on suppression effectiveness and urban conflagration to sharpen risk selection, particularly around the Eaton and Palisades fire footprints where roughly 270,000 additional homes have become eligible. Delos reports that its model has correctly anticipated all major wildfires over the last six years, including recent Los Angeles events that produced no fire losses for its book, and its analysis suggests that 65% of areas declined by legacy insurers fall within its acceptable risk profile, with over half of California FAIR Plan policyholders potentially able to transition to a single, comprehensive Delos policy. Against a backdrop of rising FAIR Plan enrollment and a fragile state market, CEO Kevin Stein says the company is coupling its underwriting expansion with partnerships focused on wildfire resilience, education, and affordability—including initiatives with InnSure, ROAR Partners, CAL FIRE, and the California Fire Safety Council—to support both portfolio growth and community risk mitigation.
