Deep Isolation Nuclear has strengthened its governance and regulatory bench by appointing longtime nuclear industry executive Matthew Sunseri to its Advisory Board as the company moves toward a full-scale deep borehole demonstration. Sunseri, a former CEO of Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation and member of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, is expected to support oversight of safety, regulatory engagement, and enterprise risk as Deep Isolation advances both its technology program and capital markets strategy.

Management framed the appointment as part of a broader build-out of advisory and leadership capacity ahead of a planned public listing and commercial deployment of its deep borehole waste disposal solution, which is protected by 91 issued patents and underpinned by its DOE-funded Universal Canister System. Sunseri’s experience in running safety-critical nuclear plants, shaping nuclear policy, and representing the sector in international climate discussions is intended to bolster Deep Isolation’s credibility with regulators, governments, and investors, complementing recent hires of a new CFO, general counsel, and board director as the company works to de-risk execution of its demonstration, navigate complex regulatory pathways, and position its technology for global adoption.
