Databricks has introduced Genie Code, an autonomous AI agent designed to automate complex data engineering, data science, and analytics tasks, positioning the company at the forefront of so‑called agentic data work. Built on the same foundation as Genie and tightly integrated with Unity Catalog, Genie Code moves beyond code assistance to plan multi‑step workflows, generate and validate production‑grade code, and maintain pipelines and models in production while keeping human oversight on key decisions.

For Databricks, Genie Code deepens the strategic pull of its Data Intelligence Platform by turning data workloads into fully managed AI‑driven processes, improving productivity and potentially expanding platform stickiness and wallet share among large enterprises. In internal benchmarking on real‑world data science tasks, Databricks reports Genie Code more than doubled the success rate of leading coding agents, and early adopters such as SiriusXM and Repsol highlight gains in speed and quality across notebook authoring, SQL development, pipeline debugging, and model deployment.

To reinforce the reliability of these autonomous agents, Databricks has also acquired Quotient AI, a specialist in continuous evaluation and reinforcement learning for AI agents, and plans to embed its monitoring and quality‑measurement technology directly into Genie and Genie Code. Quotient’s expertise, including experience building evaluation systems for large‑scale coding tools, is expected to help Databricks deliver agents that not only operate in production but continuously improve, strengthening the company’s competitive position in enterprise data and AI and supporting its push to make AI agents central to decision‑making across its more than 20,000‑strong customer base.
