Cursor has acquired AI code-review startup Graphite in a deal reportedly priced well above Graphite’s last private valuation of $290 million, signaling an aggressive push to consolidate the AI software development stack around Cursor’s platform. The transaction, whose exact terms were not disclosed, brings Graphite’s specialized “stacked pull request” workflow into Cursor’s existing suite of AI-powered development tools, including its Bugbot code review product. Stacked pull requests let engineers manage multiple dependent code changes in parallel without waiting for sequential approvals, a capability that directly targets one of the biggest bottlenecks in AI-accelerated coding: the slow, error-prone review process that follows rapid code generation. For executives, the strategic logic is clear: Cursor is moving from being primarily an AI coding assistant to owning a fuller AI DevOps pipeline, from code creation through review and deployment, with the goal of compressing cycle times and improving code quality at scale.

The deal follows a series of acquisitions by Cursor, which was valued at $29 billion in November and is clearly using its balance sheet to build a defensible platform and talent base. Last month, Cursor acquired Growth by Design, a tech recruiting strategy firm, strengthening its ability to attract and deploy specialized engineering talent, while in July it absorbed the team from AI-powered CRM startup Koala at a post-money valuation of $129 million, according to PitchBook. Graphite adds a mature, commercially validated product and a founding team with long-standing ties to Cursor CEO Michael Truell; both companies share early backers, including Neo, Accel, and Andreessen Horowitz, which should ease integration and strategic alignment. Competitive pressure in AI code review is intensifying, with rivals such as CodeRabbit and Greptile raising substantial funding, but Cursor’s move positions it as a consolidator capable of offering an integrated coding and review environment. For customers and investors, the implication is that Cursor is executing a roll-up and product expansion strategy aimed at locking in enterprise workflows, increasing switching costs, and capturing a larger share of AI-driven software development spend over the medium term.
