CREW Carbon, Inc. has raised a total of $25 million in an oversubscribed Series A round, combining $19 million in equity with $6 million in grants and other non‑dilutive capital to accelerate deployment of its wastewater treatment optimization and carbon removal technology. The round was led by Burnt Island Ventures with participation from AP Ventures, Sony Innovation Fund, Builders Vision, Kibo Invest, Idemitsu Ventures, New York Ventures, several family offices, and existing backers, positioning CREW to expand into more utilities facing tightening regulation, higher volumes, and aging infrastructure.

The company’s patented process uses strategically sourced alkaline minerals, such as calcium carbonate, to adjust pH and alkalinity inside existing wastewater plants, improving biological performance, pollutant removal, and settleability while reducing chemical use and expanding effective capacity. Because CREW’s system integrates into current infrastructure, utilities are seeing measurable improvements within weeks, and one U.S. utility is evaluating deferral of roughly $350 million in planned capital upgrades due to the performance gains.

CREW’s technology not only enhances operations but also delivers permanent, quantifiable carbon dioxide removal by locking CO₂ and other super‑pollutant emissions into stable mineral forms without requiring new federal funding or permitting regimes. This precise measurement and verification capability underpins more than $33 million in carbon removal offtake agreements with corporate buyers including JP Morgan, Google, Autodesk, Stripe, and others via Frontier, and has already enabled the capture of over 2,000 tons of CO₂ at competitive cost versus other engineered removal providers.

Since commercial launch in 2024, CREW has been deployed at nearly 10 wastewater treatment facilities across the U.S. and Europe, including Hampton Roads Sanitation District, demonstrating a scalable model that aligns utility cost reduction with decarbonization targets. Investors highlight the company’s ability to leverage existing industrial infrastructure and clearly defined customer pain points to drive both water‑sector efficiency and climate impact, positioning CREW as a potential category‑defining player in water and climate technology.

To support its next phase of growth, CREW is building out its team across process engineering, technology management, supply chain, logistics, and business development, while advancing a proprietary analytics platform to provide wastewater operators with real‑time insights and optimization tools. With fresh capital, growing recurring revenue potential from utilities and carbon credit buyers, and supportive policy and market tailwinds around net‑zero commitments, the company is focused on scaling deployments and deepening long‑term partnerships with wastewater utilities that seek to expand capacity, defer capital spending, and meet climate objectives simultaneously.
