Collibra is expanding its strategic partnership with Google Cloud to embed its data and AI governance platform directly into Google Cloud’s open lakehouse ecosystem, centering its capabilities around Knowledge Catalog and Dataplex for joint customers. The move positions Collibra as the governance and business-context layer for enterprises standardizing on Google Cloud for analytics and AI, with implications for increased platform stickiness and higher-value deployments.

At the core of the announcement is a new bi-directional integration that allows Collibra-governed metadata, including policies and business definitions, to be pushed into Google Cloud’s Knowledge Catalog so Dataplex users see governed, business-ready data in native workflows. In parallel, technical metadata and discovery insights flow back from Dataplex into Collibra, keeping Collibra’s system of record synchronized with the actual state of the data environment and reducing manual curation overhead.

By linking Collibra’s governance, lineage and quality context with Google Cloud’s intelligent data fabric, enterprises can enforce consistent policies across their data estate while adopting an open lakehouse architecture that blends data lake flexibility with warehouse-grade structure. This is designed to strengthen regulatory compliance, support auditability and increase trust in data feeding AI models, which is a key buying driver for heavily regulated industries and large global organizations.

Google Cloud leadership frames the partnership as essential to delivering trustworthy analytics and AI at scale, emphasizing that Collibra supplies the business semantics and control that many cloud-native tools lack. Collibra’s own product leadership positions the integration as a step toward making governance intrinsic to the data fabric, rather than an afterthought, which could expand Collibra’s role from a standalone governance platform to a foundational layer across multi-cloud and hybrid estates.

The bi-directional integration is now in public preview and available to joint Collibra–Google Cloud customers, signaling that enterprises can begin pilot and early production use immediately. For Collibra, the tighter embedding inside Google Cloud’s stack enhances its strategic relevance in cloud data modernization and AI initiatives, potentially driving larger deal sizes, deeper account penetration and longer-term contracts as customers institutionalize open lakehouse patterns on Google Cloud.
