CMR Surgical has reached a key inflection point, disclosing that more than 45,000 patients worldwide have been treated with its Versius surgical robotic platform, as the company readies its entry into the U.S. market following FDA 510(k) clearance of the Versius Plus system for cholecystectomy in December 2025. Announced at the 2026 SAGES meeting in Tampa, the milestone underscores Versius’ multi-specialty uptake across more than 30 countries and now positions CMR as the second most used robotic surgery system globally, giving the privately held firm a stronger base from which to compete in the world’s largest robotic surgery market.

With the SAGES conference serving as CMR’s formal U.S. debut, management is focusing on building partnerships with hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to seed adoption and expand robotic-assisted surgery across general, colorectal, urology, gynecology, and thoracic procedures as future indications are secured. Executives highlighted Versius’ modular architecture—independent robotic arms that can be repositioned and moved between operating rooms—as a differentiator aimed at lowering integration friction, improving OR utilization, and enabling scalable deployment across health systems, while tens of thousands of completed procedures and associated real-world data are expected to be a critical factor for U.S. surgeons and administrators evaluating new capital equipment and long-term program growth.
