The Innovation Center is described as the world’s largest site dedicated to direct air capture breakthroughs, positioning Climeworks at the center of policy discussions on cross-border carbon removal frameworks. Increased engagement with European regulators and policymakers may support future alignment on subsidy schemes, regulatory clarity, and structured demand for carbon removal services.

Climeworks is also organizing the Climeworks Summit on May 4 at Climate Week Zurich, convening senior leaders from business, technology, and finance to discuss science-based carbon removal within corporate net-zero strategies. Speakers from Schneider Electric, NTT Data, Breitling, UBS, AMAG Group, Partners Group, and a former Swiss Re CEO highlight the company’s access to major corporates and financial institutions.

By positioning itself as a thought leader, Climeworks aims to accelerate commercial adoption of high-integrity carbon removal solutions and support price discovery for direct air capture. This relationship-building effort may help convert interest into long-term offtake agreements, strengthening revenue visibility as carbon markets mature.

The company also highlighted a new carbon removal partnership with NTT DATA, a global digital and IT services provider, marking its first portfolio agreement with a major AI infrastructure player. Climeworks will contribute to NTT DATA’s net-zero ambitions through a diversified, high-quality carbon removal portfolio focused on residual emissions.

Linking carbon removal to AI infrastructure growth ties Climeworks’ services to a structurally expanding sector and may enhance its positioning in premium, durable removal offerings. Validation from an enterprise customer like NTT DATA could also help attract additional technology and AI clients seeking robust net-zero solutions.

Beyond direct air capture, Climeworks emphasized progress on its flagship bioenergy with carbon capture and storage project in Stockholm with Stockholm Exergi. The BECCS facility, targeted to start operations in 2028, is expected to remove about 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually from biogenic emissions, with permanent storage offshore Norway.

The Stockholm project is framed as one of the world’s largest carbon removal initiatives and integrates Climeworks into emerging cross-border CO₂ transport and storage value chains. While the long lead time and capital intensity highlight execution and regulatory risks, successful delivery could support substantial multi-year offtake contracts and reinforce Climeworks’ role in large-scale, high-quality carbon removal.

Overall, the week showcased Climeworks’ strategic progress across policy engagement, corporate partnerships, and project development, indicating steady momentum in building a diversified and scalable carbon removal portfolio.
