Chef Robotics has introduced a robot-to-robot communication (R2R) capability that enables multiple Chef robots on a shared conveyor line to coordinate food deposits and materially increase throughput on high-speed meal assembly operations. The new system allows each robot to broadcast real-time tray position and orientation data over built-in wireless radios, synchronizing actions across the line without additional infrastructure or centralized control.

By having upstream robots instantly share which tray received which ingredient, downstream units can precisely target the correct tray and timing, improving accuracy on fast-moving conveyors and reducing spillage and missed trays. Because each robot still runs its own perception system and the approach relies on tray tracking rather than ingredient recognition, the solution is generalizable across a wide range of SKUs and ingredients and supports scalable deployment as demand grows, with some configurations reaching up to 150 trays per minute under Chef’s robotics-as-a-service model in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
