BrightNight has begun construction of the Pioneer Clean Energy Center in Yuma County, Arizona, positioning the company as a key provider of firm renewable power to Arizona Public Service in one of the state’s most constrained load pockets. The project, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony on February 11, combines a 300 MW solar array with 300 MW/1,200 MWh of battery storage, designed to deliver more than 900,000 MWh of clean energy annually as a baseload-like resource.
To connect Pioneer to the regional grid, BrightNight will build a dedicated nine-mile, 230 kV gen-tie transmission line, creating a critical new backbone asset for local reliability and future expansion. Once operational, the facility is expected to supply enough electricity to power roughly 77,000 homes and businesses, avoid about 642,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year, and cut water use by more than 99% versus conventional generation, conserving an estimated 260 million gallons annually.
Construction, which formally started in October 2025, is projected to support 250–300 jobs, with additional roles during operations, underscoring BrightNight’s growing on-the-ground presence in the state. Over its lifetime, Pioneer is forecast to generate approximately $83.3 million in local and state property tax revenues, including more than $42 million to the Arizona State Land Department K–12 Educational Trust, directly benefiting public education and enhancing BrightNight’s standing with policymakers.
CEO Martin Hermann said the project exemplifies BrightNight’s strategy to deliver large-scale, performance-focused infrastructure that supports grid reliability, economic growth, and system resilience for utilities and digital infrastructure customers. Pioneer also serves as a reference asset within BrightNight’s 30 GW U.S.-focused portfolio, showcasing the company’s integrated approach to utility-scale renewables and storage and reinforcing its positioning as a partner of choice for load-serving entities facing rapid demand growth and decarbonization mandates.
The company highlights that future performance, cost, and revenue outcomes remain subject to typical project execution, policy, and market risks, consistent with its forward-looking statements disclaimer. Nonetheless, Pioneer represents a significant strategic step for BrightNight in scaling contracted renewable-plus-storage projects in growth markets, enhancing its track record, and supporting future capital formation and commercial opportunities.
