BriefCatch has acquired the core product and technology assets of WordRake, including twelve U.S. patents and its proprietary sentence-editing algorithms, in an asset deal that closed today, positioning the company as a consolidated leader in workflow-embedded legal writing software. By combining WordRake’s sentence-level clarity and concision engine with BriefCatch’s document- and argument-level legal analysis, the company aims to deepen its role in AI-assisted but lawyer-controlled drafting for law firms, courts, and other professional users.

CEO Ross Guberman framed the transaction as a response to rapid AI adoption in legal practice, emphasizing that firms want tools that enhance judgment-intensive skills without introducing new liability risks, and that WordRake’s “trusted editing signals” will be integrated consistent with BriefCatch’s disciplined, lawyer-in-the-loop approach. WordRake will continue to be supported in Microsoft Word and Outlook with existing licenses honored and no immediate product disruption, while a defined roadmap anticipates phased integration of its patented in-line editing into BriefCatch’s platform, with WordRake CEO Scott Johns joining BriefCatch as a strategic advisor to support the transition and future product strategy.
