Boomitra’s Mongolia Soil Carbon Project Achieves Key JCM Milestone

According to a recent LinkedIn post from Boomitra, the company’s Mongolia initiative has reached a No Objection Decision under Japan’s Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). The project was developed with Mitsubishi Corporation and in consultation with the Mongolian and Japanese governments to scale improved grazing management with herder communities across Mongolia.

The post suggests this regulatory milestone under the JCM follows sustained technical engagement with public-sector counterparts, indicating a high bar for methodology rigor and verification in Boomitra’s soil carbon projects. By positioning the Mongolia project within a compliance-oriented carbon framework, Boomitra may be strengthening the bankability and perceived integrity of its credits for institutional buyers.

According to the post, the initiative aims to support healthier rangelands, stronger herder livelihoods, and measurable climate impact, aligning commercial activity with broader climate finance and rural development priorities. For investors, this emphasis on high-integrity soil carbon in compliance markets could signal potential for more stable, policy-backed revenue streams compared with purely voluntary carbon markets.

The collaboration with Mitsubishi Corporation and engagement with two national governments may also enhance Boomitra’s credibility and open pathways to additional Asia-focused climate finance partnerships. If the model proves scalable, the Mongolia project could serve as a template for expanding regenerative grazing and soil carbon programs in other geographies under similar crediting mechanisms.
