Bolt has signed a strategic partnership with distributed GPU cloud provider Aethir that positions the checkout and payments company as the default payment infrastructure for games built on Aethir’s decentralized platform and distributed outside traditional app stores. Under the agreement, Bolt will enable one-click, browser-based checkout for in-game purchases across open-web and social channels such as Telegram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and WeChat, allowing studios to sell directly to players, bypass app store payment rails and fees, and retain greater control over pricing, margins, data, and player relationships.
The deal gives Bolt immediate access to Aethir’s gaming ecosystem, which includes established publishers and studios, and builds on Bolt’s recent entry into gaming via its Playfinity partnership, signaling a deliberate expansion of its commerce infrastructure into high-growth, interactive environments. Technically, the integration allows purchases to be completed in a secure browser pop-up with real-time confirmation, then passed back into the gameplay loop without disrupting the user experience—an approach aligned with evolving regulation that increasingly compels app stores to allow third-party payments. Aethir’s recently launched $100 million ecosystem fund can be used to support user acquisition, player incentives, and go-to-market efforts for titles that adopt Bolt’s checkout, potentially accelerating Bolt’s transaction volume and merchant adoption in gaming as in-game spending—already at $82 billion in 2024 according to Sensor Tower—continues to rise. For Bolt, the partnership strengthens its position as a cross-channel payments and identity provider, extends its reach into web-based and social commerce for games, and creates a scalable avenue to capture transaction fees and data in a segment shifting away from closed app store ecosystems.
